Central defender Sergio Ramos has been the Spanish champion five times with Real Madrid. If it was up to the captain of Los Blancos, it could have been more trophies – if it hadn’t been for Barca star Lionel Messi (33).
“If Barcelona didn’t have it, we might have won more titles,” said the 35-year-old in the documentary “The Legend of Sergio Ramos”. During his time with the Catalans, Messi won the championship ten times.
Both teams are still in the running for the title in the current season. On Saturday there will be a direct duel between the pursuers of the leaders Atletico Madrid in the Clasico (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker). While FC Barcelona are only one point behind the Rojiblancos in second place, Real are third, three points behind.
Ramos, who will miss the prestige duel due to injury, emphasized that the Madrilenians suffered against ‘La Pulga’ for a long time. “There was a time when we faced the best Barca in history,” said the Spaniard. “We had great coaches like Jose Mourinho but it was difficult for us to beat them.”
During that period Los Blancos had “not won much and there was a lot of tension, either caused by them or by us,” Ramos admitted.
