After Hansa Rostock was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, there were riots on Sunday night. As the local police announced, up to 250 Hansa fans gathered in Rostock city center on Saturday at around 11.30 p.m. and set a mobile sales stand on fire. The arriving police and fire fighters were attacked with pyrotechnics and bottle throws.
In addition, barricades made of garbage cans were set up in several places and then set on fire, and two police vehicles were smeared. Only around 2.30 a.m. could the area be evacuated with the use of strong police forces.
The extent of the damage is still unclear, but several cars, among other things, were damaged by the fire. The unknown perpetrators are investigated on suspicion of a breach of the peace.
Hansa Rostock was promoted back to second division after nine years on Saturday with a 1-1 (1: 1) against relegated VfB Lübeck on the last third division matchday.
