According to information from SPOX and Goal fundamental interest in goalkeeper Andre Onana from Ajax Amsterdam. The Gunners would like to bring the Cameroonian in the summer – but only if his doping ban is lifted or greatly shortened in the appeal proceedings before the international sports court CAS.
Onana was banned from UEFA for twelve months and will therefore only be able to train and play with a team again in February 2022. The CAS ruling on appeal is expected in June.
Arsenal had already contacted the Onana advisors in January. The Londoners looked for another goalkeeper after Emiliano Martinez’s departure and new signing Alex Runarsson’s slump in form, but then decided to loan Mat Ryan from Brighton until the end of the season.
Interest in Onana remains at Arsenal, however, as the club believes the keeper could become a bargain: with Ajax’s contract expiring in 2022, Arsenal are convinced that Onana could be available for eight million euros.
It is not yet clear what an Onana commitment would mean for Bernd Leno, the actual number one of the Gunners. The German keeper has a contract with the club until 2023.
