Ansu Fati’s dilemma with his knee

Ansu Fati’s left knee has swollen since he underwent surgery on November 9 for a torn internal meniscus and the Barcelona player seems willing to undergo surgery in an attempt to solve an injury that occurred during the match played against Betis at the Camp Nou. The intervention is scheduled for Thursday and would be carried out by Antonio Maestro, doctor of the Portuguese team, publishes Mundo Deportivo. Maestro is one of the doctors consulted by Ansu together with the French specialist Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet.

At 18 years old, Ansu is very concerned because it was initially expected that his reappearance would occur four months after being operated on by Dr. Ramon Cugat. The footballer became impatient with the evolution of the injury when his knee became inflamed after rehabilitation at the Camp Nou. The sources consulted agree that the problem originated when the suture threads of the meniscus broke and, once corrected, a biological treatment was chosen by Cugat himself. The knee, however, became inflamed again before Ansu’s despair.

The player chose, meanwhile, to consult with different doctors and the opinions do not coincide because some are in favor of an aggressive treatment – intervening – and others opt for a more conservative one, the thesis defended by doctor Cugat. The Catalan traumatologist is in favor of preserving the meniscus, which is vital to avoid future injuries as a protector of the cartilage of the joint; His proposal is growth factors and control of workloads in rehabilitation, exercises that should not be forced to avoid knee inflammation.

Ansu has to decide between the two proposals: continue with a recovery that has peaks and different interpretations of the efforts to be made or, on the contrary, undergo a meniscectomy or partial removal of the meniscus that would have him two to three months off. Neither the player, nor the Barça medical services, nor Dr. Cugat, have confirmed for the moment whether a decision has already been made that, in any case, will prevent the player from playing the Olympic Games and the Eurocup.
