3. League – 66, 66, 64, 64: Promotion battle comes to a head

The battle for promotion in the 3rd football league is coming to a head: Dynamo Dresden, Hansa Rostock, 1860 Munich and FC Ingolstadt are only two points apart three game days before the end of the season.

The situation before the final spurt:

After surviving the quarantine and the dismissal of head coach Markus Kauczinski after the 3-0 home defeat against Halleschen FC, Dynamo Dresden has found its way back on track. Under the new coach Alexander Schmidt, the Saxons managed to jump back to the top with two wins and one draw. With strong promoted SC Verl Dynamo “got a valuable point”, said Schmidt. But now the eight-time GDR champion receives the form-strong Viktoria from Cologne, who has not lost in ten games and celebrated seven victories in the process.

After relegation in 2012, Hansa Rostock is about to return to the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Jens Härtel on Tuesday kept competitor FC Ingolstadt at a distance with a 1-1 draw in the Ostseestadion and is still on a direct promotion spot. The best team in the second half of the season impresses with its comeback skills and, after falling behind, scored 19 points – the best in the league. On Saturday, the east duel against FSV Zwickau marks the start of the season’s final spurt. Compared to the other candidates for promotion, the cog has the supposedly easiest remaining program.

The sixties are the team of the hour. The team of coach Michael Köllner won seven of the last eight games, the draw against Viktoria Köln – just a minor blemish. On matchday 29, Munich were nine points behind FC Ingolstadt, with three games to go they are tied and face the Schanzer in a direct duel on the last matchday. “Back then, nobody thought we could do anything, but we believe in ourselves and we believe in our chance,” said sports director Günther Gorenzel at MagentaSport after the 3-0 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. The lions around alpha animal and top scorer Sascha Mölders go into the final sprint with great self-confidence.
