Promotion coach Stefan Leitl has left his future at SpVgg Greuther Fürth open until 2023 despite a contract. First of all, he will “analyze and discuss the season. It’s not about an open door, but rather that I want to discuss this with my family,” said Leitl after the 3-2 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf and the promotion to the Bundesliga Sky.
The season “cost a lot of strength”, added the 43-year-old: “I have to let my emotions sink in now, that was a brutally exhausting year. When I have recovered, there will be talks.” Leitl also evaded the question of offers from other clubs. That is not the point, but “about me personally”.
Fürth’s sports director Rachid Azzouzi was calm. He is “relatively sure that Stefan will stay. I didn’t have the impression before that he wanted to do anything else.” Leitl, who previously worked for FC Ingolstadt, took over SpVgg in February 2019.
