1. FC Nürnberg is filling the newly created position of sports director with Olaf Rebbe. The club announced on Monday.
The 42-year-old comes from the Greek first division club PAOK Saloniki and is returning to German professional football after almost three years. The club did not provide any information about the contract period. Rebbe will work on sports director Dieter Hecking in the future.
“Olaf will head the licensed player and scouting area,” said Hecking: “When we found out that Olaf wanted to return to Germany for family reasons, we got in touch with him directly.” Rebbe spoke of an “attractive” task, “because there is a clear plan and a long-term perspective”.
Rebbe first came into professional contact with Bundesliga football at Werder Bremen, in 2013 he moved to VfL Wolfsburg, where from 2015 he took on the duties of sporting director and then sporting director. From 2017 he held this position at the then English first division promoted Huddersfield Town, in the summer of 2020 Rebbe was hired in Greece.
