The Karlsruher SC threatens to say goodbye to the promotion race in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Baden team managed to score 2: 2 (1: 0) at the first division relegated SC Paderborn thanks to great morale shortly before the final whistle, but the leading trio VfL Bochum, Hamburger SV and Greuther Fürth can clearly pull away in the course of the 26th matchday .
Former Philipp Hofmann (2nd) from Paderborn gave KSC a dream start at the old place of work, Dennis Srbeny (53rd) and Chris Führich (69th) turned the game after the break. Hofmann missed the chance to equalize in the 88th minute with a penalty kick. Paderborn’s left-back Jamilu Collins saw yellow-red (90th) because of time play, and in the second minute of stoppage time, Babacar Gueye finally scored 2-2.
Third place is currently four points away for coach Christian Eichner’s team. Paderborn ranks seven points behind KSC in the midfield.
After five away wins in a row, Karlsruhe tackled the game with enormous self-confidence. SCP goalkeeper Leopold Zingerle was able to fend off Marvin Wanitzek’s long-range shot in the 2nd minute. At the corner that followed, Philipp Heise found Hofmann’s head on the spot, who scored KSC’s 17th goal of the season according to a standard.
The guests remained clearly superior, but after the break the picture changed completely, the hosts trained by Steffen Baumgart literally constricted the KSC.
