The soccer players from Bayern Munich failed for the first time on the way to their fourth German championship. Coach Jens Scheuer’s team surprisingly lost 3-2 to TSG Hoffenheim despite a 2-0 break lead.
Defending champion VfL Wolfsburg can reduce the gap to two points with a win on Sunday (2 p.m.) against SC Freiburg. On May 9th there will be a direct meeting in Wolfsburg.
“Our second half was just too passive, we were too much in management mode,” said Scheuer: “It’s a big blow today, but in sport you have to get up again and we still have everything in our own hands.”
Linda Dallmann (1st) and Lea Schüller (13th) gave the Champions League semi-finalists an early lead. But Tabea Waßmuth (62nd), Katharina Naschenweng (68th) and Nicole Billa (73rd) caused the league leaders’ first defeat after 17 league wins. The Munich women had conceded as many goals as on Saturday evening.
